  • Immigrant, I am

I am now an official immigrant with an Alien number Now! YAY but no word on when I get my paperwork. I just got a confirmation number is all.

This is even though my mother was US citizen when she had me. It is so strange to think I have less rights than a person who was born here by undocumented parents. I cannot get squat. Even though I have in the past. I am glad I am on the right path now to getting legal but I never knew I wasn’t before. I have voted, dtiven, worked and even got married with my past paperwork.

Anyway I feel we do need immigration reform. Yeah something not so stupid. I mean I am not hating those immigrants children but I think we need to make it easier to have the right documentation and not change laws every few years t make it harder. Stream line the system so to speak. Actually get to meet a person face to face not just through a bunch of legal mumbo jumbo!! Lawyers have made a who living off this junk. I kind of refuse to get a lawyer on account it feel kind of slighted by a system that caters to the rich. Plus with all the Government cut backs I don’t think the process is going to get easier and faster. It fosters more illegals if you ask me.

Oh And being of a certain race, religion, and nationality shouldn’t be a question. People are trying to say we shouldn’t let others in because they are bad well we have plenty o’ bad right here that is homegrown.

Saw this on Facebook and felt I needed to share.

Hate Breeds hate so it isn’t like it is prone to a certain type of people. Americans can be just as bad to Humanity.

I find it all humorous I am going through this when my father is a full blooded, card carrying, First Nations person and Moms ancestors came over practically on the mayflower and live in the USA for years.. LOL Oh the Irony!

Anywho I had to complain again and it looks like I will be complaining until December since that is what the Website says it could take for me to find out.

  • In a way I agree about immigration reform even here. There are so many refugees who come here and with the help of the lawyers, they get the papers. That may be how we have so many terrorist here. And that picture says a lot.

  • Judith it hurts my heart to read what you went through, after being born here and that your mom was a citizen. This just smacks of such unfairness. I am sorry love.

  • Why is it that you are having to go through immigration processes — your mom was a citizen, you were born in the US, your dad was a citizen — why were you not a citizen from birth?

  • I am really sorry what you are going through. Something needs to change.

  • @ZSA_MD - @slmret -  sorry I must clarify that I was born in Canada but was considered a duel citizen because of my mom, until they passed a immigration reform bill in 2009 (i believe.) I had no proof of citizenship  according to the new law except my foreign birth-certificate, which up to now was fine. I have a SS# but they are saying I need documentation from the USA. I get it but I am in limbo until I get it straightened out.  It will take up to a year. I have already been waiting a long time. To explain how I got in so easily into the USA, my dad was an full blooded Ojibwa which gave him and his children a right to live in the USA. It is called the Jay Treaty. We used our tribal cards to go through immigration at the boarder in 1982. All ojibwa are allowed free passage in and out of the two neighboring countries.  It so complicated its hard to explain in a paragraph.  ;)

  • I am so sorry you are going through this and it is so stupid for this to be going on for you.

We have neighbors who were born here but whose parents were and moved in from from Mexico.  They have been here over 60 years and their parents are both deceased. They had to prove they were born here.  This was so stupid.I hope things get easier for you and all of this paperwork comes together and things get straightened out.

  • @Grannys_Place - It is a mess. I think it would have been easier if they policies didn’t change so much over the years. Reagan relaxed the  immigration laws why we came in so easily. But with 911 it made them try and control it harsher. It has created a huge mess.

  • Osiyo Usdi Ulv,
OK, I’m going to put my two-cents in on this. I thought long and hard on what to say!
On June 2, 1924, Congress granted citizenship to all Native Americans that were not previously given it by other legislation. So, if all Native Americans are citizens, why do they need a “Green Card” and have to go through the naturalization process to become citizens? The only reason I can come up with is this is just another of a long line of “Broken Promises” made to the Indigenous People of the Americas! My other thought is: “Why can’t our legislative branch (state and federal) of the government notify, the people they are supposed to serve, when they change the rules (laws)!” To find out the law changed the way you did is so very wrong, in my opinion! Is this just another way of “Screwing” Indigenous People out of their human rights, again! I “Love” this country, but I get so angry when some people get all the benefits and others are left to fend for themselves! Where is the “equality” in the statement “Equal rights for all under the law!”? My opinion is we only have “Equal rights for some, if not just the few!”
Anyway, I so very happy for you that you are making some progress in getting your life back in order!
May The Great Spirit’s Blessings Always Be with You!

  • @Traveler_In_Time - so agree with you. Its always a battle on paper for Natives.
