  • Political and relgious rant

Stay away if you don't want to read this...

I just do not understand how Christians are voting for a person who they believe to be of a false religion, Mr. Romney. ALL My life I was told the bible tells us to shut the door on the false prophets and not listen to their words meaning anyone who is of a faith that was different than what the bible taught. But now they are trying to elect him because the other option is a Black christian whom they distrust because his biological dad was a Muslim.

WOW I know that similarity! My dad was always thought suspicious since he was raised by his father and mother who were of the Old Native American Indian religion. Dad accepted Christ in his teen years and was thrown out of his house. He taught the bible went to bible school became a minister but all his life white people talked behind his back like he might turn to the devil at any moment. If they knew his heart they would have known his deep faith in Jesus. Thankful God sees that and our faith is not in their popular opinions and judgement.

I cannot say I even have such a deep faith as my father had and I was raised christian and went to christian school. Yet time and time again they accuse Obama of being Muslim because his father was, this angers me. I thought what you are is what you profess. Obama never has rejected Christ publicly and even went against his own party to say publicly he was against certain things that he didn't believe in like Gay marriage and abortion. BUT He understood the need for freedom for everyone's belief system in America. Obama wants pregnancy prevention to be at the top of women's health care to prevent abortion. To make it easier to support a child by relaxing the tax on the poor and make the rich pay their fair share. Obama also publicly said he is against Gay marriage but it was a state control issue and stayed out of it. I won't even go into the fact that lies are told about him left and right about his motives.

If prosperity is the issue then we know that cheating the poor to feed the rich is also against Godly principle. Christ almighty said that rich were to shed their wealth to follow him but so many Christians are so into prosperity teaching I wonder about their faith in Christ. Jesus said he didn't even have a place to lay his head and that his disciples were not to worry so much about money. Roll forward to this century and it is all American Christian church is all about, Money. I was taught the Bible said you cannot serve God and money!

Is it because I am not wholly white that I see a different perspective, honestly? I believe that Obama is a godly person. I heard him called socialist and communist. I guess it is because he wants justice for the poor? God told his people to give a portion of our wealth to the temple and the poor. He judged the nation harshly when they didn't have justice for the orphans and widows. But we are worried about tax cuts for the wealthy? The same people who tricked millions by selling them out in the stock market?

I just do not get it. I tried to wrap my head around it but my spirit cries for the unfortunate. I see so much suffering at the hands of rich and powerful men. Why is this OK as a christian?? During the last 15 years so many jobs were shipped out of our country for huge profits, why we are jobless now. I remember when the big moves were happening in the banks to do their operations over seas in the early 2000's. My ESMIL helped go over seas to train workers then came back to lose her job to them. I saw how many were laid off in 2005 and couldn't find another job because they couldn't pay their bills and keep their credit score up. YES they judge you here on your credit score of you are worth hiring. Thanks BUSH! So many are underemployed because of this.

I also saw a number of small business people cheated their workers and used profits to go on cruises and vacations but couldn't afford to pay a decent wage. They blame taxes but I doubt that when you have 3 homes and cars.

The rich are getting all the cream and milk. Why is asking an overly wealthy person to pay the same rate of taxes an issue?? REALLY? The uber wealthy they want to tax have factories in China and India and pay their workers a small fraction of the costs. They will not suffer like a poor single mom here trying to make end meet. Why is fairness evil all of a sudden? Its so called Socialist to ask to be paid fair and taxed the same? That is BUNK!

I plan to not talk about this again but it was brewing in my head. I cannot vote for a man who is calling corporations people and telling poor people they are poor because they are lazy. He is clueless to the real working man.

Obama might not have all the answers but I believe him over anyone else. Maybe it is because he is brown like me. Oh no I am a racist now. LOL NOT my other reasons are that he is doing what he said he would do as much as he possibly could without being blocked my congress time and time again by Godless Republican men. R-Men who sleep with their mistress and claim they are pro-life while sending their woman to get an abortion. Who claim pregnancy from rape is Gods will? Who make villains out of women who do not want to have government tell them to get forced inspections if they get pregnant. Who say they want less abortion but no prevention of unwanted pregnancy? Who also cry the rich are being discriminated against?? Who want tax cuts for themselves???

Who is Godless now? A man who does a championing for the poor or a man that wants to champion the rich make the middle class pay all the taxs?

Yeah what would Jesus really do??? Vote for a man whose religion teaches racism? Vote for a man who decimated jobs in his own company for profit then lies he knows how to make jobs? Or a Man who professes Christ and has a high resolve to help the poor.

Yeah its easy or me. Why doesn't anyone else in my Christian friends and family get this??

  • i asked my mother this question, how she could vote for Romney since i was raised as you, that Mormonism was a cult. all she could come up with was he was not Obama. that is all they care about, mostly, those voting for Romney. they dislike President Obama so much, they would vote for the devil himself.

i asked my mother what the President has done to infringe upon her rights and she said nothing, but what would he do in the next four years. i even had arguments on facebook with people about this and the sane ones had to admit the same thing, that President Obama hasn't done anything... yet.

our economical issues cannot be resolved without raising taxes. i think if Romney is elected, the fiscal cliff will happen and all of the Bush deductions will expire for everyone. that way, Romney can say it wasn't his fault and blame it on the previous Congress and President.

Social Security is an easy fix. increase payroll taxes by a small margin and that fixes 86% of the problem.

Medicare isn't an easy fix. i heard someone say, blame your parents for the medicare problem. they had more children than people have today and thousands are eligible for Medicare every day.

but yes, i agree with you. it has puzzled me for a long time how Christians can vote for Romney and then completely dismiss President Obama as a christian.

not Obama... that's what i say now. they aren't voting 'for' Romney. they are voting against Obama.

  • @coletteatsea - it is all kind of racist to me. I don't know why else anymore. It makes no sense. Glad we are eye to eye on this subject. Good to have someone who sees what I see.

  • Yay!!! Way to go girl.... (((Hugs)))) You wrote what I wanted to write for a long time. But I didn't want to, as I thought I would have tomotoes on my face, because I am not an American. But you said it. You have nailed it well. Thank you for pointing out the hypocrisy that is going on. All what Romney is trying to preach is, he wants to go to war with Iran and flatten middle east and support Israel! And all these people have already forgotten what Bush did and how he left this country. Oh yes... they have forgotten everything.

  • I don't vote based on a person's religion but the choice some Christians are making based on their religious beliefs strikes me as bizarre. Tonight General Colin Powell's former Chief of Staff Colonel Lawrence Wilkerson, a republican, said "My party is full of racists." He said this in response to a racist remark John Sununu, co-chair of the Romney campaign, made about General Colin Powell who yesterday endorsed President Obama. Powell explained clearly and succinctly his reasons for endorsing Obama and his reasons for being troubled by Romney. General Colin Powell, himself a republican is one of the most trusted and admired military leaders and statesmen across party lines. Sununu claimed Powell endorsed Romney because of race. Sununu apparently did not listen to Powell's substantive explanation for his endorsement of Obama or more likely, chose to ignore it and instead rile up a large part of Romney's base.

  • I have several blogs hinting about the beliefs of Mormons but I do respect them because they do not promote drinking and seem to be hard workers and also love large families.

The dreaded socialist label still unfortunately carries prejudice. FDR the greatest American president for social security did it and since there are no more competition with communists the socialists programs have slowed to a crawl.
We supposedly are in competition with China. Their high speed rail program is now failing and the NYT did an article on how rich the inner circle's families have gotten. China is a society that may soon be headed for calamity.
I can be negative, and I do over worry. But compared to the world whoever gets elected is small compared to the big world problems like global warming, running out of fossil fuels and inflation that stiffles advancement.

  • I was talking to my mom about this the other day. I certainly don't understand it.

  • It seems that all Democratic's get the blame for everything. It's Obama now, taking the blame for everything the last President did. It was Clinton before, people saying that when Bush was in office, the unemployment and everything was Clinton's fault.

This is something that I've talked about with my mom a lot, that why can't people see the truth. She said that a lot of people just listen to the lies they hear or see on TV and that all anyone can do is pray that people will finally see the truth.

  • Osiyo Usdi Ulv,
Ok, I’m going to get political by commenting to this posting, sorry.
My opinion of Romney and Obama has nothing to do with their religious beliefs. I personally don’t think either of them are worth voting for! I question their honesty! To be a Honorable Person is or should be a major qualification for the job of becoming President. Remember that this country has a separation of Church from State. The religious question came up when JFK was running for President! The opposition wonder if the Pope was going to run this country! JFK turned out to be one of our best Presidents ever. To bad he wasn’t given a real chance to prove it.
You say Obama cares about the poor in this country, but I don’t agree with you on this. Take his health care program  (law), who is going to be hurt most by it, the poor! How can you justly tax (fine) or force somebody to buy health care that has trouble putting food on the table to feed his family, much less to provide the basic necessities of life for them. Yes, the rich will not be affected by this health care program, they can afford to buy health care insurance. The other fact of his health care program is that Congress does not have to partake in it. We as tax payers will still provide them with their health care, not just for them but also for their families, for the rest of their life. These people can afford to purchase their own health care insurance, so why are they exempt? The only reason I can think of is because that don’t care about the poor! Fact of life in this country, “the poor will get poorer and the rich will get richer!”
The other week we rented this movie from Netflix titled “Sing Your Song”.  "SING YOUR SONG works as a testament to Belafontes drive and dedication to causes well outside the usual goals of simply making money."
    Movieline
Harry Belafonte rose to fame in the 1950s as a singer and actor, bringing the Caribbean sounds of calypso music to the charts years before anyone coined the phrase "world music," and starring in a handful of hit movies, including CARMEN JONES and BUCK AND THE PREACHER. However, for Belafonte fame and wealth were never as important as the opportunities they created for him to make the world a better and more just place, and he's nearly as well known for his work as an activist as for his career in the arts. He marched with Martin Luther King Jr., fought against apartheid in South Africa long before it was common, spoke out for economic justice in America and abroad, raised money for famine relief in Africa, and condemned Joseph McCarthy's communist witch hunt (and was blacklisted for his troubles). Filmmaker Susanne Rostock offers a portrait of Belafonte as an artist, activist, and individual in the documentary SING YOUR SONG, in which he discusses his music and acting, what drove him to become an activist, the remarkable men and women he's worked with over the decades, and the triumphs and disappointments of his personal life. SING YOUR SONG was an official selection at the 2011 South by Southwest Film Festival.
One of the extras on the DVD is an interview with him. At the end of the interview he talks about how disappointed he is with what Obama has done as President.
As far as I’m concerned with Romney, his integrity as a honest person is questionable! As governor he past a similar health care law within his state, and now he is calling the federal law unjust. I find him to be “two-faced” as a person.
So who would I vote for in this election? I can choose not to vote or pick the lesser of two evils. I can’t voice my opinion by voting for none of the above! Because I don’t believe that either man is worthy of the job as President! We know what each man has done to further their political career and it really has nothing to do with severing the people.
My opinion of our government is they are only looking out for number one, and don’t really care about the people they are supposed to serve!

  • Wow, you really let that one rip, huh!? =D

It has long seemed to me that many people who profess to be Christians do not lead their lives in very Christ-like ways. And a goodly number of those have the temerity to behave self-rightously, especially when it comes to their politics.

Which candidate will best help us take care of the poor, the hungry, the sick, and the outcast? If you are a Christian, shouldn't that be the most relevant question?

  • Obama's grandparents were muslim (on his father's side), his father was an atheist who had rejected islam by the time he met his mother who was a an independent and open-minded christian.

  • This is a great rant!  I'm with you on everything you have said.

Scott's parents, who are Evangelical Christians, have justified their support of Romney despite the fact that used to denounce Mormonism as a cult.  Even Billy Graham has told Christians that Mormonism is now okay.

All of this reeks of hypocrisy.  I'm sick and tired of so-called Christians who support lying, cheating, dishonest politicians.  That congressman who had an affair and then impregnated his mistress is our congressman here in Tennessee. People are STILL supporting him.  He is a lying hypocrite!!!  It's truly mind-boggling.

  • @angys_coco - I was scared of tomatoes too. I thank you for your support

  • @TheSutraDude - I do not vote that way either. I just was raised this way and am baffled too. I saw that last night about Powell. This is why so many Native first nations people turn to the Dems,

  • @PPhilip - I don't think LDS are a cult so much as whacked. I have a a beloved sister-in-law who is LDS. Christan doctrine is what i grew up in and am shocked at their now acceptance since at one point the church didn't want me even to have a Mormon friend who lived in my neighborhood. They warned my parents on the dangers of a false religion. MUCH like they do Muslims now. I don't think religion qualifies a person but is speaks to their reputation on how they live.

  • @Saridactyl - agreed Thanks for the comment and stopping bye. :)

  • @Shining_Garnet - Romnesia I have heard tossed around. :)

  • @Traveler_In_Time - We proably will never see eye to eye. But most first nations people vote DEM because of the support by that party. I stil think about how McCain pushed out Elders out off their homes for profits and money/.  Natives worry about the land.

  • @agnophilo - Yes I know but I don't think if he was even was a Muslim it is a reason to disqualify him personally. I know Muslims personally in my neighborhood and they are good people.I just question the church I grew up on their with resolve. I you grew up Evangelical Christian you would see the hypocrisy. I like Obama for his policies.

  • @Ikwa - Oh I agree it's hypocrisy, I was just saying that bit was factually inaccurate.  I think many americans would vote for a kenyan muslim who was white and conservative over an american christian who is black and liberal.

  • @christao408 - Agreed! :) Thank you for the nice comment.

  • @agnophilo - I agree. I do think race has a lot to do with their fear and  hate.

  • @gottobereal64 - Thank You my long time friend I think this is why we click so well. :) Thanks for the support.

  • @Ikwa - I also think the conservative media deliberately fans the flames.

  • @agnophilo - You mean Faux news LOL I watch it to see what they say. I hear Lies more than truth. I hate it.Also through the christian community you get your best information about voting in church. I hate that. Why I quit going. I think we need to keep those separate, Faith and Politics, why I spoke on them.

  • @Ikwa - I understand. I didn't assume you voted that way but thanks for clarifying. Since you don't know me I wanted to make my stance clear.

  • @Ikwa - Osiyo Usdi Ulv,
I think in a way we do see some things eye to eye. I’m registered as an independent, so I can’t vote in primary elections in the State of PA. That means I can’t voice an opinion on who the candidates are for either party. I’m stuck with who they choose. This is the first time that I can remember that we don’t have a major third party candidate running for the office of President. Besides we don’t really vote for the office of President and Vice-president. All we are doing is voicing an opinion on who the Electoral College representative for our state will vote for. That person does not have to vote what is the popular opinion. They can vote any way they would like! That is how Andrew Jackson became President. The Electoral College went against popular opinion, and you know what he did to Native Americans. The major problem I see with Obama, is that he is trying to change our government to what most European countries have, and that form of government is not working over there. They have a higher rate of unemployment, homeless, and poor.  Can we really afford that type of government? I say NO! But, is Romney going to be any better? I don’t really think so. So if you could vote this year, who would you vote for? I’m still not sure which one is right for the job. Mostly I don’t like either one, but I can’t vote for “None of the Above!” So my opinion does not really count!
You see I think outside of the box. I look for info on things, that is not the popular opinion. I know McCain did things that hurt Native Americans, but at that time we needed a military leader. Somebody that would do more to support the troops fighting a war without borders.  Alqaida is a fanatical group of Muslims and have no country of their own. We are fighting a war of ideas. I have met with true Muslims, and if you read the Koran as it should be, you will find that it is no more different than reading the Bible, or Torah. Peace and Love is at the heart of these religious books, only mankind corrupts what is written. More wars are and were fought in the name of God! I have studied the major and some minor religions, and the only thing I have found about them, is that they are all taking different paths to get to the same place, The Great Beyond. That is why I don’t really try to get into a religious discussion with other people. My religious belief is a person thing and something that is hard to explain in a few words, as is my political understanding. So mostly I try to avoid discussing politics and religion. With that in mind, I think we do see eye to eye! “Religion and politics do make strange bed fellows!”
May The Great Spirit’s Blessings Always Be with You!

  • @Traveler_In_Time - I think Obama has thoroughly pissed off the left side by being strong on war. I really disagree about socialism. I like its idea and being from Canada I know it can work. They have one of the best economies in the world right now. Why my sister moved.

  • Washington State, where I live, is a mail in ballot voting state.  We have already received our ballots, voted and mailed them in.  So we have voted and we didn"t vote for Romney:):):)
We voted for who we felt deals with the issues we are concerned with and what will affect our adult child and grandkids, and that new great grandson:):).

  • i love your earnest argument

i can feel your genuine frustration through your writing, how you cannot understand the injustices against the poor and the middle class.
    well done

  • i don't agree with at least 75% of what you said (maybe more) but i do agree with your right to say it. that is what makes america great. God bless--karen

  • It's helpful to bear in mind that Bible has been used to support all sorts of stuff we no longer tolerate in society...including slavery and polygamy. God didn't edit those parts out...we just ignore them.

Sadly, for too many people the "white house" is a literal expectation. And not that long ago, a lot of Christians were disturbed by Romney because of the White Horse Prophesy.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/White_Horse_Prophecy And as recently as a year ago, I heard many saying that Mormons were NOT Christians...that they were just a cult. But Boy...suddenly that doesn't matter.

I think it is absolutely about color, and that offends me. People stood there like IDIOTS while Bush nearly destroyed the country, and said NOTHING. Now they can't shut up about what they "fear" Obama will do. I'm more afraid of what Romney will do...since he can't seem to make up his mind about anything, and his own wife says she fears for his mental health if he's elected. Last time I checked, your wife thinking you might crack up under the pressure is NOT a glowing endorsement.

    So I share your anger....

  • as Stephen Colbert pointed out in an interview, Mormonism is probably the most patriotic form of Christianity.  it's the only one that has Jesus actually visiting this continent.

  • @flapper_femme_fatale - ha ha You do know he is joking,

  • @galadrial - wow His wife is scared of his mental health WOW. I agree the bible has some really outdated material. :)

  • @lifeontheWink - Thank you or stopping by and taking time to read even if it doesn't agree with you. :) This is 75% not ok with my one side of family too

  • @Grannys_Place - I am glad you got to do that. This R&R guys scare me. I rather have a man who knows his own mind like Obama.

  • @Ikwa - actually, he said that out of character in an interview on NPR.

  • @flapper_femme_fatale - no way I can't believe anything he says. His whole act is straight faced like he is serious. Colbert also makes fun of all religions.
